Lost in the Music

Lost in the Music

Tonight, don’t try to find me

I’ll be lost in the beat

The music will capture my soul

And I’ll jump into it completely and whole

Don’t even try to speak to me

Unless you’re helping me

Sing along to my favorite song

Or teaching me the words

As I scream them wrong

Don’t look at me tonight

But as Mercutio stated

Men’s eyes were meant to stare

So, I’m completely aware

That your eyes are free to move

Where they choose

But I will not see you

As I’m turning in the middle

After my feet have been let loose

Leave without me tonight

If you leave with someone

That’s none of my concern

Tonight for no one

Will I yearn

I will dance freely

Until I relearn

What it means to be me

I will be reborn

I will get lost in the music

To find myself

I will do this alone

I need no help

So tonight I plea

Just let me be

And let me find me

In every beat

Too Honest For Politics

Too Honest For Politics

“You’re too honest for politics.”
I sat and I pondered this.
If a phrase like this exists…
There must be truth to it.
If I’m too honest for politics,
What kind of people enter it?
If I’m too honest for politics,
Who shall I call to fix this shit?
If I’m too honest for politics,
Why is everyone so torn but passionate
Convinced their side has the answers
And the others simply destructive?
If I’m too honest for politics
Why are you so concerned if I will vote?
Because I’m voting in one criminal
Or the other
Both involved
With the same old shit.
If I’m too honest for politics,
How has our society functioned like this?

Haitian Etiquette

“That’s why we share
All we have with you
Though there’s little to be found
Cause when all you have is nothing
There’s a lot to go around.”

-       Prince of Egypt, “Through Heaven's Eyes”

Haitian Etiquette

“You’ll take my bed
And I’ll sleep on the floor.”
You look surprised.
“That’s not a suggestion. “
You’ve never seen this before?

You are my guest.
I can only give you my best.
Show you around
Pay for your meals
Do all that relieves stress

Don’t be afraid
To ask for anything.
“I don’t want to be a burden, I –”
I don’t want to hear it.
Don’t get up for a thing
Learn to relax and sit
Feel comfortable
When you’re in my home
For these few days
Throw your worries
Onto me
Because if you worry
How can I be happy?

This is Haitian Etiquette
Rules written long before my time
You give the very best
To every guest
So their stay is
Lovely and without worry
And they can get lost in time.

But ... Your Breath Stank

But … Your Breath Stank

It’s really hard to argue with you
Your breath stank
I refuse to talk to you too
Your breath stank
You scream, “You don’t follow rules”
But … Your breath stank
You scold and try to shame me too
But … Your breath stank

It’s really hard to follow your points
Your breath stank
I could lend you a few coins
Your breath stank
Toothpaste is cheap – that’s my point
Your breath stank

I really wish that you’d stop talking
Your breath stank
I had hoped you’d continue walking
Cause … Your breath stank

I’m really not trying to be rude
But … Your breath stank
I’m praying that you will conclude
Damn … Your breath stank

I hope you know you’ve made your case
Shit… Your breath stank
NOW GET THE FUCK OUT MY FACE
YOUR MUTHAFUCKIN’ BREATH STANK !
