I wish there was an overabundance of Christians

And not Christianity

I wish you wouldn’t tell me about the theory

But focus on the practice

I wish you didn’t talk about love

But showed it

I wish you wouldn’t condemn me

But console me

I wish you didn’t try to decorate the church

But uplift the congregation

I wish you weren’t perfect

Or better yet pretend to be

I wish instead of asking for money

You’d ask for serenity

I wish you’d promote peace and happiness

And not advocate bigotry and hate

I wish you showed what it meant

Rather than said it

I wish the pulpit wasn’t a lotus for conviction

But for grace and forgiveness

Maybe I am just too optimistic

Religion for some is the chance to persecute

Not comfort

It is a chance to distress

Leave the confessed undressed

All in the Name of the Lord…?
